Last Friday evening, the Polygon server was down from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM. The server had gone down due to an unexpected power outage in the house. The outage was caused by a tripped circuit breaker, which seems to have happened due to a short in the power strip connected to the server. The server’s power was restored, but the operating system had to be rebooted, which caused a brief downtime.
To prevent similar incidents in the future, the decision was made to install a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) system for the server. This system will provide an additional layer of power protection and allow for a more graceful shutdown in case of a power failure. The UPS will also help in ensuring that the server’s data is saved properly before the power is completely lost.
The server will now be regularly checked for any signs of power issues, and the UPS system will be tested monthly to ensure its functionality. These changes should help in maintaining the uptime of the server and ensure that all family and friends can continue to use the resources hosted on Polygon without interruptions.
