Setting Up the Password Manager on Polygon

/docs-archive/support-network/ · last edited 30 Jul 2025 · Support

Begin by ensuring your Polygon server is running the latest stable version of the operating system and all software. Update as necessary to avoid any security vulnerabilities.

Install the password manager application of your choice, such as Bitwarden, onto the Polygon server. Bitwarden is open-source, easy to use, and has a robust encryption feature set.

Once installed, set up a secure, separate user account on the server specifically for managing the password manager. Do not use the main admin account for this purpose to maintain separation of duties.

Configure Bitwarden to use end-to-end encryption, both at rest and in transit. Follow the Bitwarden documentation to integrate it with your preferred password management techniques, such as two-factor authentication.

Import existing passwords and accounts from a secure backup. Ensure that the backup is stored in a safe and separate location, ideally encrypted as well.

Set up a scheduled backup of the Bitwarden vault on the Polygon server to an external drive or cloud storage service. Use strong encryption for backups and regularly verify their integrity.

Train family members and friends on how to use Bitwarden to store and access their passwords securely. Emphasize the importance of keeping their Bitwarden credentials safe and not sharing them.

Monitor the server’s logs for any unusual activity related to the password manager. Set up alerts for suspicious behavior if the server supports it.
