Managing disk space on our Polygon server is crucial for maintaining a stable and performant system. Given the server runs for personal and family use, we need to balance storage efficiency with the ability to recover data easily. To achieve this, we've adopted a strategy of regularly creating disk snapshots and implementing a clean-up policy.
Snapshots are invaluable for data protection, allowing us to revert to a previous state in case of accidental data loss or system corruption. We create snapshots every week for the main storage volumes. This frequency provides a good balance between the risk of losing data and the storage overhead of multiple snapshots.
To manage the disk space efficiently, we have set up a policy to retain the last four snapshots for each volume. This ensures that we can recover from any recent issues while keeping storage usage under control. Additionally, we monitor disk usage daily and free up space by deleting unnecessary files and old snapshots as needed. This approach helps in maintaining a healthy storage environment and ensures that our Polygon server remains responsive and reliable.
